Free Group Program Descriptions

  • Hybrid groups are held virtually over zoom and in person at the centre at the same time. Registration is required as there is a capacity limit. No capacity limit for the virtual zoom group.
  • Virtual groups are held via Zoom and require access to an electronic device (computer, phone, or tablet) and a WIFI connection.
  • In-Person groups are held in-person at East End CHC 1619 Queen Street East (at Coxwell Ave). Registration is required as there is a capacity limit. Please wear a surgical mask and complete the COVID-19 screening questions every time you visit the centre. If you do not have a mask, we will give you one for free.

Art Café - (Hybrid Group) Join us on the last Wednesday of the month from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. In this ongoing group you can explore your emotions and express yourself with art. Brain Booster - (Hybrid Group) Your brain has an amazing ability to adapt and change, even into old age. Join us on this ongoing program, the first Thursday of the month from 1:00pm – 2:30pm to try out some fun brain-boosting activities. Diabetes Prevention - Let's Talk - (Hybrid Group) Join us Tuesdays from 10:00am – 11:30am for 7 sessions (December 6th - December 20th, 2022 and January 10th - January 31st, 2023). Learn healthy lifestyles to reduce your risk of developing Diabetes and prolong the onset of any chronic illness. Discuss low cost resources available in the community for healthy lifestyle maintenance. You are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes if you: Have prediabetes (Impaired fasting glucose levels); Are overweight; Are 45 years or older; Have a parent, brother, or sister with type 2 diabetes; Are physically active less than 3 times a week; Have ever had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) or given birth to a baby who weighed over 9 pounds; Are an African Black, Hispanic or Latino, Native or indigenous population, some Pacific Islanders and South Asian population are also at higher risk; Have Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Contact: Farzana at 416-778-5805 x212

Eating On A Budget - (In-Person GroupLearn how to save on grocery shopping and cooking when trying to eat healthy. Join us Wednesday, December 21st, 2022 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm.  Get tips on smart shopping, food storage, and meal preparation. Learn principles of healthy eating using affordable foods. Gentle Fit - (In-Person and Virtual Group) Empower yourself to take action and get fit in this program designed for beginners. Tuesdays (virtual) from 3:15pm – 4:15pm. Wednesdays (in-person) from 10:30am – 11:30am at the centre starting November 16th, 2022. Learn the basics about fitness with a complete body workout, reduce pain in joints and risk of falls. Contact: Keiko at 416-778-5805 x237

Gentle Yoga - (In-Person Group) Accessible yoga for everyone, Tuesdays from 6:15pm – 7:15pm. Regular yoga practice helps to release stress, lower blood pressure, promote a good night’s sleep, increase mobility and flexibility of joints, improves balance and posture. Healthy Mind Healthy Body - (Hybrid Group) The human body and mind define who we are, our abilities and capabilities. In this group you will learn how to keep all parts of your body and mind healthy leading to better physical health and mental well-being. Join us Tuesdays from 2:30pm – 4:00pm for 9 sessions (November 22nd - December 13th, 2022 and January 3rd – January 31st, 2023). You can choose to attend all the workshops or some sessions but a minimum commitment of 3 workshops is required. Each workshop will focus on a particular part of the body and how to keep that part functioning well. Program outline: Nov.22.2022: All about me - Introduction to chronic illness; Nov.29.2022: Healthy Heart; Dec.6.2022: Healthy Bones; Dec.13.2022: Healthy Brain; Jan.3.2023: Healthy Joints + Exercises with Keiko our Kinesiologist; Jan.10.2023: Healthy Mind; Jan.17.2023: Healthy Weight; Jan.24.2023: Healthy Vision and Hearing; Jan.31.2023: Final session review (feedback and evaluation). Contact: Farzana at 416-778-5805 x212

Intuitive Eating  - (Virtual Group) Tired of yo-yo dieting and food rules? Join our dietitian on Wednesdays from 2:00pm – 3:30pm for 10-weeks (January 11th – March 22nd, 2023 * No session on March 15th, 2023). Break free from a diet mindset and develop a healthy relationship with yourself and food. Learn to eat in a balanced way and enjoy favorite foods without guilt. Transition from a self-control to a self-care mindset. Lunge N’ Learn - (In-Person Group) Join us on Thursdays from 1:00pm – 3:00 pm for a 6 week program (November 17th – December 22nd, 2022). Exercise and learn more about topics that impact your health and wellness! Learn how to live within your means by mapping your financial goals. Understand the benefits of healthy eating for the heart. Develop strategies to improve memory and concentration.
